Congratulations to the Portage Central DECA students.
Last Friday they competed at the District Conference and 14 students qualified to compete at the State Conference in March.

From the Counseling Office:

Seniors, one more time!  For those of you that applied to colleges through the Common Application, listen up: some of you have requested your mid-year transcript in Parchment, and we thank you!  But many of you have not done this important step yet.  Please log into your Parchment account ASAP and request your transcript to be sent to Common App.  Be sure to select "hold for grades" so that your transcript will be sent once semester grades are posted.  Any questions, please see Mrs. King.

Attention: men's swimming & diving team, practice has been changed to 3-5:15 for Monday- Tues- weds this week. See coach Schafer if you have any questions.

Congratulations to the Girls Bowling Team for defeating Gull Lake 26-4 over the weekend.  Great job ladies!

Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Basketball Team for their victory over St Joe Friday night 44-34.  Great job Mustangs!

Attention Freshman:  
This Saturday from 9:00-11:00 AM, tutors will be available in the Commons of Portage Central High School to assist 9th graders with their examination preparation. Donuts and bagels will also be provided. This is a great opportunity for students to get ready for those exams.

Attention students: get your hands on the Central Stampede Friday!! We'll have news about the presidential inauguration, when you can expect Chick - Fil - A to FINALLY open, as well as whether you should waste your time on Netflix's "A Series of Unfortunate Events.".... Stampede.... Friday.... GET ONE.

From your Mustang Library:  All overdue books and fines should be resolved before exam week. So don't delay.  Check with your friendly library ladies to make sure you have nothing outstanding.

Are you interested in knowing more about the International Baccalaureate Diploma program at Portage Central?  There will be an informational meeting tomorrow at 7:00 PM in the Community Room.  This meeting is intended for 8th, 9th and 10th grade families who would like to know about the program.  There will be a brief presentation followed by a period of questions-and-answers.

Freaking out about exams? Pick up a FREE exam care package at the Portage District Library! Just show your student ID to the librarian sitting downstairs at the Youth Desk to receive a free bag of food and prizes. One per Portage High School Student. Available now through this Sunday while supplies last! Get them before they’re gone!

Montage layout editors: Montage is meeting today after school in Mr. Baas' room. Today layout starts to run itself. Remember to bring your laptops! Also, there will be cookies, so come help out!

Forensicators - Remember - We have a TEAM meeting tomorrow, right after school, in Mrs. Mills' room. Plan to be there. Remind your parents, too, that there is a Parent meeting in the Media Center tomorrow night beginning at 6:30.

Attention Shrek Orchestra and Crew...want a show shirt?  Please see Ms Bowen ASAP for an order form.  Orders are due by Monday!

Seniors: The application for the Kalamazoo Community Foundation  General Scholarships is now open. Most of these scholarships have a March 1 deadline. Students can apply for these scholarships at www.kalfound.org

From the Athletic Department:

Women’s Lacrosse Sign-ups are tomorrow at 6:00 PM in room Chambers room (1140).  If you want to play lacrosse or think you may, please attend the meeting to learn more.

Men's Varsity Soccer Players Attention: Coach Rice has a sign up sheet located in the Athletic Office for winter evaluations to be done.  This is for anyone that played on the Varsity team this past fall and returning to the program next year.  Please sign up in a time spot that is available.  Any questions please contact Coach Rice.

A huge congrats goes out to the Varsity Cheer Team for taking first place last night at the SMAC meet. They had the highest overall score and round 3 score of the night. Way to go ladies.

If you want to learn why there's no AED on the third floor, or you just want to relive the basketball team's win over Northern last Friday night, get here early Friday to pick up a copy of your student paper, the Central Stampede.

Congratulations to the Boys Basketball Teams on their sweep of Mattawan last night. The Varsity won 47-43, the J.V. won 43-34, and the Freshman won 44-20.

Hey Mustangs!! Are you interested in hearing what your peers have to say about their problems with cheating? Are you curious about the punishment when a student is caught cheating? Be sure to read Friday's Central Stampede for a special investigative report on just what your fellow Mustang students, teachers, and principals have to say about academic dishonesty. That's in FRIDAY'S Stampede!!!

Like pizza? Need a place to study? Come to the Portage District Library this Sunday for a special after-hours study session! From 5:00 pm-9:00 pm, the library will be open only to high school students who are taking exams. We will supply pizza, pop, and places to study. Prep for exams, chow down, pet the nicest dogs you’ll ever meet, and take the stress out of exam prep. No advance registration is required, but you must sign in at the Youth Desk no later than 5:00 pm in order to stay at the library after we close to the public.  Please arrange to be picked up no later than 9:00 pm.

Last night the Men's Swimming & Diving Team defeated Bridgman/Lakeshore 116-67. The Mustangs improve to 6-0! Great job guys.
